Przystanek Woodstock 2009
According to news at the time, the Polish equivalent to Woodstock — called Przystanek — was set to become the European installment of a new Woodstock festival. In the midst of still attempting to orchestrate Prospect Park concerts, Michael Lang expressed interest in teaming with Przystanek Woodstock in 2009.
For 14 years, Przystanek had been organized and revered as the European Woodstock. The festival features two stages and showcases the hottest acts from around the world. The idea was conceived after organizers of Przystanek were allowed to attend Woodstock 1994 in person. Since then, the free concert has drawn individuals from all over the world for a heavy dose of music from across the globe.
Lang was impressed with the success of Przystanek without the use of international stars. The ongoing festival also features important figures in Polish culture who speak to the youth in hopes of making a positive impact.
Przystanek believes in the true intentions of Woodstock 1969 and creates a peaceful atmosphere that reflects them. The free concert took place July 31–August 2, 2009, and attracted visitors from across Europe and beyond.
About Przystanek Woodstock
Przystanek Woodstock is the largest festival in Europe every summer and one of the biggest in the world. Since 1995 the festival has taken place in Kostrzyn upon Odra in Poland, near the border of Germany. It was created by the Polish organization The Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity, and proceeds are intended to purchase medical equipment for Polish hospitals.
Crowds grew from about 150,000 in 1998 to about 300,000 in 2009. Przystanek has adopted the music and spirit of the Woodstock nation and made it uniquely European.
Music lovers from all around the world consider it a truly remarkable adaptation of Woodstock. Along with concerts on two different stages, the Academy of the Finest Arts takes place where youth can meet journalists, musicians, political figures, religious leaders, actors, and other prominent figures — just as Woodstock 1969 was a gathering place for ideas as much as music.
