Answer: All three. It was billed as the Woodstock Music and Art Fair presents An Aquarian Exposition in White Lake, NY – Three Days of Peace and Music, but has also been called the Woodstock Music Festival.

Answer: 1969

It took place August 15th to August 18th. Earlier in the year, Richard M. Nixon was sworn in as the 37th President of the United States, and Neil Armstrong took first steps on the moon.

The subtitle of the event itself was promoted as “An Aquarian Exposition”, but even further than that has become identified as synonymous with hippies, counter culture and the “Woodstock Generation”. The term Age of Aquarius was cemented into sixties culture with the medley Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In performed in the 1967 musical Hair and also performed and brought to mainstream charts by The 5th Dimension.

The band was a psychedelic rock group with lead singer Joseph Allen “Country Joe” McDonald. Joe played on Saturday of the festival and then played together with The Fish on Sunday.

Richie Havens performed for three hours, mainly because many of the performers who were scheduled after him had difficulty getting to the venue due to traffic issues.

Bethel is a town near White Lake in the Catskill Mountains in upstate NY.  The festival was originally planned to be held in Woodstock, NY but a suitable spot couldn’t be secured. Then it was planned for Wallkill, NY but the permits were revoked a month before the scheduled festival.
